2021 Austin Jingle Bell 5k

This is the first short  race I have been in since February of 2020. I am referring, to be more clear,  to either a 5k or a 10k when I say short race. I am not counting the Hill Country Trivium or either of the virtual 50k races I was in in my opening  sentence. I forgot what it feels like to run alongside a group of other people! I did not remember what the start of one of these races feels like.

The good news is that I placed 5th in my age group. Although Running fast enough to place in the top 3 would have been great I am always happy to place in the top 10. I am beginning to prefer the longer distance races because I prefer keeping a steady, if somewhat slower, pace for between 10 and 13.1 miles. Running at a fast clip for 3.1 miles is not as easy as it used to be! My body, at the age of 52, prefers a slower pace for many miles over a short distance at a considerably faster pace.

I am now ready for my next half marathon. Let's see how well I can run the one coming up in January!
